I am getting tired of the phrase “sheeple” or the idea that sheep don't think for themselves and are easily fooled. If you believe this you have not spent much time with sheep.
Sheep have lots of opinions and don't care about your ideas. They will grow to trust you but it takes time and treats.
Blue and Plum our first pair of St. Croix hair sheep have learned over the years to trust us and do as we ask but… if they have found something that is more fun than us it can take a few tries to convince them to follow.
My dear sweet perfect Penny, their daughter, on the other hand, will follow me anywhere. This girl was born here and I have been with her almost every day of her life. She knows she can trust me because I have shown her she can.
The new four sheep, SBP aka Paul the ram, Stormy the wether, and the two ewes, Edith and we never named the other, have started to come around. They came to live on the farm at the beginning of May. It takes time to earn trust.
So let's show these majestic headstrong creatures some respect! Or they just might head butt you…
